Decisions Decisions

“Donuts?” Seth asked.

“Sounds good,” John responded.

This was a common occurrence with these two college boys. They lived right down the street from the best bakery in town. Probably not the best thing for their health, but great for the friendship. As they headed out the front door and started down the street, Seth started talking about his favorite topic: Girls.

“So did I tell you about this girl I met?” he asked.

“Maybe. Is it Katie from biochemistry?”

“Nope, not her.”

“um…Sarah from church?”

“Nope”

“that one girl from your ice skating class?”

“Not her either”

“….oh the blonde foreign student in your botany class?”

“uh uh”

“Jamie from your work?”

“Nope”

“This isn’t some new girl you just met is it?”

“Well…”

“Figures, so what’s she like?”

“She’s really nice. uh…She sits next to me in Calculus and um..We talk before class. She’s always smiling. I think she likes me, but I’m not sure.”

“Really?...What’s her name?”

“Sara.”

“Of course, seems like every girl is named Sara. “

“Yeah.”

“So, did you get her number or anything?”

“No, but I will.”

John laughed a little. “You know, one of these days you’re going to have to actually pick one of these girls and ask her out.”

“I know, but…well…They all seem so nice.”

“Tough decision huh?”

“Yeah.”

They arrived at the bakery and walked in the small shop. The bells on the door announced their entrance. A man came out to help them. His nametag said “Larry”.

“You know Seth, picking a girl is a lot like picking a donut,” John said. “You could go for the brunette.” He pointed to a chocolate ring.

“Or the blonde.” the vanilla long john.

“Maybe even the redhead.” a cherry filled.

“Don’t pick that one, she has dandruff.” He pointed to the coconut topped one.

“and definitely, definitely don’t pick the lemon.”

“But I like lemon.” Seth replied.

“….oh yeah,” John said. “Never mind then. Hey, you can go first. I don’t know what I want yet.”

“Okay.” Seth ordered three donuts. A chocolate filled, a Rabbi’s Delight, and of course: a lemon filled. John stood there debating. He always took forever to choose.

“Funny, I take forever debating over girls, and you debate over donuts.” Seth mocked.

“I at least debate over things I know I can get.” John shot back. Larry laughed.

“Ooooo, that was a cheap shot.”

“Yeah it was….sorry”

About ten seconds went by as John tried to decide on what to get.

“Tough Decision huh?” Seth said. John Smirked.

Another ten seconds passed and Seth started getting impatient.

“Come on. Hurry up and decide. I want to eat these some time tonight.”

“Fine….I’ll take the brunette, the ….I mean the chocolate ring, the glazed, and the strawberry filled.”

“Alright, That’ll be $2.10” Larry said.

John paid the money and they headed back out the door. As they started back towards the house, John brought up the next decision.

“Now, which one to eat first?”

“Oh boy,” Seth said.
