Guilt, Shame, and Regret

Submissions, Comments,
Corrections, or Suggestions?

Guilt and shame are probably the most common of the emotional range felt by the transgender population. Many different situations cause these feelings. Sometimes individuals feel they are doing something wrong or inappropriate when they cross dress. This could easily lead to guilt, and if those feelings linger around, they may be translated into shame. Shame is a negative feeling of self-worth.

Another reason someone might feel guilty could be because they haven't told their spouse, best friend, or child about their gender issues. Another reason might be because a transgendered individual wasted a lot of time in their life hiding from themselves and started to transition into the new gender role later on in life. This is often also a source of regret. Many feel they wish they had transitioned earlier and now they have less time to live happy as themselves. However, no one should feel guilty or regretful about this. Most transsexuals transition after the age of 35. Guilt, shame, and regret are very powerful emotions that can be devastating to anyone's self esteem. No one should be ashamed of who they are.
